Initial D is a anime series based on street racing. The racing is held in the various provinces of Japan. Tak, the main character, is a totally klutz when trying to repair his car. He drives a really old Eight-Six. However, he is very skilled and soon beats all of the top riders in Gunma, Including the legendary Takahashi brothers.

Tak is undefeated untill he faces Kyle Sudoh, of team Emperor. Kyle drives a Lancer Evo III. Tak not only loses the race, he also busts the Eight-Six engine. His sneaky father, buys a extremely powerful engine and installs it. Without a suitable Tachometer, Tak can't use the full power of the engine.
